lost: Alice in wonderland

Why do I love the story of Alice in Wonderland so much? For many years I was obsessed with it. I loved to watch the movies and got a lot of inspiration from it. I made my own „dirty Alice" costumes and found several versions of Alice together with my friends in Scotland who knew very early movies.

In my dreams

You pull me deep down

into the forest of my wonderland.

The wind rushes in my ears.

It tells me about you,

While I feel your hand in mine

and listen to all these words

like wonderful music.

They are not toxic because

I know it is a dream.

A dream to fill me with beauty

and all that fantasy I need

to escape through the rabbit hole.

When everything is too much.

When I awake I remember you

with goosebumps everywhere.

The aspect of getting lost

Alice is a rule breaker and the moment when she disappears into the rabbit hole she might look lost but arrives in a place where everything is possible. She seems to me like a seeker on a quest because she can not agree with the rules of her society and the role she has to play as a „well-behaved" girl in the upper class.

Alice is a dreamer and allows herself naturally to drift away into her fantasies. So she is very similar to me. Even when I am a grown-up now, I get often lost in fantasy worlds of historical eras or dreams and create stories. In primary school, they called me a dreamer and a person who had problems with focus and concentration. It was the reason why I started school later than others, not aware of the fact that I am a highly sensitive person.

orientation

Alice teaches us to see the way as a kind of journey. When we travel and try to find ourselves, we get often lost and on our way and have new experiences. I think that we are on a journey through this kinda wonderland our whole life. The end is only death which doesn't mean it's the end.

Many of us are scared to lose control and stick to rules, and habits and stop ourselves from learning and new experiences. They think too much about society, what people think and what they should do instead of following their intuition and feelings. As Alice makes her way to Wonderland she wants to find the way „out", gets in panic and despair and has to learn to leave her familiar environment of society's rules. That lets her get seen as snobbish at first until she swims with the waves and finds joy on her journey. In the end, she recognises the rabbit hole as a comfortable escape from her life in a beautiful cage.

ALICE THE TROUBLEMAKER

Alice represents a girl that looks nice at first but then she shows how much of a troublemaker she really is. A bit clumsy, naive and very stubborn. On her way, she meets a lot of fairytale figures and tries to get advice and help. They are often cheeky and try to distract her so that she gets more lost. Alice reacts often in a way of revenge when she is angry about others' behaviour. She turns her back to others and does the complete opposite of what they said. She is not always following advice and tries to find her own way in Wonderland. She turns out as a brave girl, fighting the Red Queen and fighting for injustice. This might not be all visible when you watch the old Disney version but her reactions show a strong fighter character and someone who is not understood by her environment.

the mad hatter

Alice and the Mad Hatter are one of my favourite couples, they stand for an impossible connection of two people from different worlds but belong together. I get often lost in weirdoes, dreamers and deep thinkers. They attract me deeply and show me different sides of me I have not seen before. I like to disappear with people in mystery and secret places, in fantasy worlds, stories and music. It's not surprising that the Mad Hatter is a figure I love and I understand the connection between these two.

Alice is and was a great inspiration for my life and I still love to travel in Wonderland.
