Welcome to 2024.
Even when a new year, a new number, doesen't make a change for me, I have news after such a long time without a post here. I hope you all had a good start in the new year and have some nice plans.
Everything is in the making and I am not forcing the process. I am working on my new book "Roots" since months. I had the first ideas already last summer but I was tired of book work and had enough to do with my book "Travels and Moves" which is also available on Amazon.
I loved to take the book to different places and take photos, telling people stories about places and what I explored. My personal highlight was the book presentation by an Italian jazz band in Maastricht, at the Jeker Jazz Festival. It appeared in a video of the band, they are part of it in poetry and pictures and the fusion of music, a beautiful place, and poetry seems to be still one of the most wonderful things.
I had personal guides this year at the festival. I spent most of the time with Giel Coenen and his wife Leni, the organisers of this beautiful festival. I also walked from place to place with Marc, responsible for social media. Apart from the festival, I made some reconnections, visited my friend and editor Zoe in her studio for an exhibition, made some day trips in the summer holidays and moved a bit too much.
When my book is finished, I will inform you here but in the same way I will step back a bit from writing. I will still keep going but maybe delete my Facebook page and post less. I don't know what's coming but I know I need to reduce my social media activity and it's impossible to keep all acounts alive. Instagram will stay as my main account.
What will "Roots" be about? I can only tell you that I tried to express my definition of home, the different places where I feel home, a home in people or in music, in nature and in places that give me energy, calm me down, inspire me or tell me a story. I tried to structure it and it was hard to sum this all up, make it to a book that shows you all the different variations of home, heritage, different cultures, connections. It will be my deepest book and my last for the next time.
After a year with many ups and down, stress and a lot of different experiences, I am happy to start with a new book, old friends and great followers who love what I write and keep me going.
