The war in votes

The world can be scary when you close your eyes for a second to rest in the next you open them again and look at figures. Figures which will don't let you believe in common sense in people. After the EU elections, I am still shocked and don't want to believe how many people have voted for the far right.

It's like choosing between life and death, creating your own doom and choosing a restricted life without any freedom of open borders, travelling and a system that allows you to move, work or study wherever you want.

The result in Germany is a result of innocence, rebellion, disappointment and despair of the young generation. A generation which is lost and doesn't know where to go and it seems they build their own obstacles for their future. Because voting far right means that you vote against the EU, you vote against all these possibilities young people have right now.

In other countries, it might look different but after I read about the results and possible reasons for the vote I can only see that we have a big task ahead of us. A couple of years ago, young people pulled me up from the ground and convinced me with all their spirit to go on climate protest and take action because the earth is all that we have and the future of this young generation is overshadowed.

It gave me hope and new energy but now I am wondering what happened in the meantime and how this young generation turned from a more leftist corner straight away to the far right corner. 14% of the young generation voted for them in a current poll before the European elections (source: www.juniorwahl.de). I can only hope this is only a trend and a sign of confusion but it is a warning signal we can not ignore and we have to see it as motivation to find out what goes wrong.
